In Spiritual Connections magazine, Volume 9, published in 1995, HH Bhakti Charu Maharaja wrote in his personal message to disciples and well-wishers: “I try to make myself available to you when I am near you, and when I am not Spiritual Connections is our link.”

Between 1993 and 2002 Maharaja published 19 issues of the magazine. In Spiritual Connections Volume 18, in his personal message Maharaja explained the development of the magazine: “The first two issues were very simple—just a few sheets of A4 paper folded in the middle and stapled together. It became quite popular and most disciples were very happy with this mode of communication. As a result the standard gradually started to improve. Finally in 1997 it reached a standard comparable to any top quality magazine on the market.”

Each issue contained many articles such as Maharaja’s personal message, transcriptions of his lectures and seminars, pastimes of Lord Krsna and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, interviews with devotees who were serving Maharaja personally and articles based on the writings and songs of the previous acaryas.

After Maharaja produced the special memorial issue of Spiritual Connections in honour of HH Tamal Krsna Maharaja in 2002, he expressed the desire to change the format of the publication from a printed magazine to a digital magazine that would be available online.

He said that times were changing, digital communication and information was becoming more popular and people were reading printed material less. He also said that people, especially the younger generation, preferred to read books and magazines online and so he wanted Spiritual Connections to be an online magazine. He expressed that in general our preaching should move with the times. Our message stays the same, but how we present it and make it accessible should be relevant to the modern times and audience.

In an attempt to fulfil Maharaja’s desire the Spiritual Connections team seek to revive the regular publication of Spiritual Connections magazine, and to this end the team has prepared a special feature length memorial issue offered to Maharaja on the auspicious occasion of the first anniversary of his Tirobhava tithi, on 24 July 2021.
The revival edition is available together with all previous issues of Spiritual Connections in flipbook format on our new Spiritual Connections website. In addition, the website features all the professional recordings of bhajans that Maharaja produced, such as: The Selected Songs from Vaisnava Poets, Krishna Bhavanamrtam, Saranagati, Abhay Charan soundtrack and Gitar Gan. At a later stage a blog and other features will also be available on the website.
